In doing research for a new book on the Tour de France I stumbled across this nugget and thought of Lance Armstrong at 39, who, if he could win the 2010 Tour, would eclipse a record by the great Gino Bartali by doing what no rider had done before or has accomplished since - win the Tour ten years after winning your first.“Age and treachery
will overcome youth and skill.”

BTW - Bartali won that 1948 Tour not by a handful of seconds but by over 26 minutes from runner-up Briek Schotte.
